A fascinating collection of early aviation interest glass plate negatives. All relating to bi-plane crashes in the Milton Keynes area during the period. The first glass plate negative depicting ' 1911 Captain Herbert Reynolds RE, crashed his box kit aeroplane at Simpson .' The plate shows a small crowd gathered around the downed plane in the middle of an open field. The second plate showing ' Grahame White - Easter Monday 1911 Near Fenny Stratford .' The plate depicting White seated within his aeroplane awaiting takeoff, whilst a crowd gathers behind. Accompanying this plate is also a copy of a period receipt from Grahame-White & Co to a farmer for £5 worth of repairs to his aircraft. Also included is a handwritten note in a later hand, which reads 'Grahame White, expected on Easter Monday 1911 to pass over Banbury was delayed by fog at Fenny Stratford. He then followed the railway line to Birmingham via Weedon '. The third and final glass plate negative shows a closeup image of an aircraft engine - presumably that of either Plate 1 or Plate 2 but it is not clear which. All plates are supplied with contact prints which were taken by the son of the owner in the 1970's. It is presumed that these images are unique, unpublished and unseen until now. Some associated copied newspaper articles and images are also included. A fascinating insight into early aviation mishaps. All measure approx 6.5" x 5".
Note: from a fascinating collection of aviation photographs which also feature in lots: 28, 200 and 330. All once belonged to Albert William Eley, Mayor of Milton Keynes in 1978 who had a keen interest in aviation history, particularly in the Milton Keynes area.
